Reading Tips
1. Encourage your child to reread favorite books to build your child's fluency skills.
2. Before reading, ask your child what they know about the topic.
3. During reading, ask your child to make predictions about what will happen next.
4. After reading, ask your child to retell the story to you. Ask your child to tell you about the characters, setting, and the events in order. If your child read an informational text, ask your child to tell you three fun facts about the topic.
5. Pick books that are at the right reading level. Use the five-finger strategy. If your child has difficulty reading 5 or more words on a page then the book may not be at their independent reading level.
6. Enjoy taking turns reading aloud at bedtime. Reading at bedtime is a special time for you and your child.
